Pioneer Day 2026 is coming — fireworks are banned statewide, but the celebrations are bigger than ever
Utah's biggest summer holiday — Pioneer Day on July 24th — is right around the corner, and communities across the Wasatch Front are gearing up with parades, rodeos, festivals, and professional drone shows. But there's an important catch: Governor Cox has issued a temporary executive order (EO 2026-04) banning personal fireworks statewide due to historic wildfire conditions. This applies everywhere along the Wasatch Front — Sandy, Draper, Salt Lake County, South Jordan, Lehi, Provo, and beyond. Many cities have extended local restrictions beyond the July 2–5 window.
The great news: Professional Pioneer Day shows are still happening. The Days of '47 Rodeo at the State Fairpark features nightly fireworks and drone displays (July 22–26). Ogden, South Jordan, and Cottonwood Heights are all hosting organized public shows. The safest and most spectacular way to celebrate is to attend one of these community events.
If you're planning to buy or light any fireworks, check with the Utah State Fire Marshal for the latest rules. For a full list of Pioneer Day events along the Wasatch Front, visit our community events page.
